Commissioned by Matthew Booth and Hannah Swanson.

  • I. Allegretto con brio

  • II. Adagio lamentoso

  • III. Allegro con fuoco

All three movements of Duet in F Minor are set in minor. The opening movement, Allegretto con brio, has a playful, energetic quality. The 'musical character' that begins in m9 curiously wanders around the 'musical universe' that is the first movement. This contrasts with the mournful second movement, Adagio lamentoso. The third movement, Allegro con fuoco, is a virtuosic display of passions that build to a fiery finale.

I've adapted this duet for a variety of instruments. The score reads as a small flex-band ensemble, but this piece is intended to be performed by just two musicians.
