Shadows (2016)

  • ca. 5:00

    • Inspired by midnight walks in the moonlight, this eerie piece depicts dancing shadows as trees gracefully sway in the wind. Ranging from ghostlike to menacing, this piece will certainly add some darkness to your program.

    • Commissioned by Michael Johnson, saxophone

Notes

Beginning as the autumn sun is setting, the air becomes quite motionless as darkness sets in. The moon rises and reveals shimmering spiderwebs entangled in the leafless branches above. As the wind gives motion to the trees, the moonlight shining down makes dancing shadows appear on the overgrown path. At the end of this path is an old, yet welcoming house. The outside light illuminates the unlocked front door that conceals shadows within.

  • The Black Cat was premiered on December 8th, 2019 in Duluth, MN (U.S.) by the North Wind Flute Choir - Melanie Sever, director.
